Federal Migration Service head offers to hold employers hiring illegal immigrants criminally liable
Almost 300,000 foreigners who violated Russian law were banned entry to Russia in 2013, Russian Federal Migration Service Head Konstantin Romodanovsky said.
"We ban entry to almost 3,000 illegal migrant workers every day. We have already banned more than 278,000 people since the beginning of this year," Romodanovsky said at a Federal Migration Service meeting on Wednesday.
The Federal Migration Service proposed new steps for tightening the liability of illegal immigration - to introduce criminal liability for employers for hiring people illegally residing in Russia and to ban the re-sale of quotas.
"Deportation should be applied not only to individuals who commit serious crimes but to all foreigners convicted in Russia," Romodanovsky said.
"If this regulation was applied today, the notorious Orhan Zeynalov would not be in Russia legally because he was sentenced to a year in prison for a traffic accident," Romodanovsky said.
