Arctic Sunrise captain fined for failure to obey Russian coast guard
Peter Willcox, captain of the Greenpeace vessel Arctic Sunrise, has been fined 20,000 rubles ($620) for failure to obey the Russian coast guard, the judge said in his decision on the administrative violation case against Willcox, which was filed with the case materials by a prosecutor.
The document says that the Russian Federal Security Service's border guard department for the Murmansk region had issued Willcox an administrative fine in the amount of 20,000 rubles ($620) for "failure to obey a lawful order issued by an official carrying out state supervision."
The Arctic Sunrise was detained on September 19 over a protest rally against the oil drilling activities of the Prirazlomnaya platform in the Pechora Sea. The vessel was brought to Murmansk and impounded.
All 30 crew members have been charged with "piracy committed by an organized group." The defendants pled not guilty and refused to testify.
