Sobyanin wins Moscow mayoral election
Acting Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has won the city mayoral election with 51.37 percent of the vote. The turnout stood at 32.07 percent, the Moscow city elections commission said.
"Sergei Sobyanin ranked first in the vote (51.37 percent), Alexei Navalny was second (27.24 percent), Ivan Melnikov was third (10.69 percent), Sergei Mitrokhin was fourth (3.51 percent), Mikhail Degtyaryov was fifth (2.86 percent) and Nikolai Levichev was sixth (2.79 percent)," Moscow city elections commission head Valentin Gorbunov said on Monday summing up the election results.
Gorbunov said that 104,694 voters or 1.44 percent of the total number voted from home.
He also said that over 5,000 absentee voter certificates were issued and 3,558 voters used them. This means that 1,500 voters who were issued absentee voter certificates failed to appear at polling stations.
The Moscow city elections commission's website said the city had 5,056,097 voters.
