Legendary Monino Air Force Museum to be open on Aug 18
The Central Air Force Museum will have an open day on August 18 dedicated to the 101st anniversary of the Russian Air Force, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry's press service and information department Igor Klimov told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"The Air Force Museum is the only air museum in the country and the basis of its exposition is comprised of full-size planes, helicopters, gliders and other aircraft," Klimov said.
"The richest collection of aircraft gathered is in hangars, located both outside the building and within its halls, where unique showpieces of 1909, aircraft of the World War I, the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, battle devices of the post-war period and examples of modern military and civil aircraft are showcased," Klimov said.
These are aircraft developed at the design bureaus of Antonov (An), Ilyushin (Il), Kamov (Ka), Mikoyan (MiG), Mil (Mi), Sukhoi (Su), Tupolev (Tu), Yakovlev (Yak) and others, Klimov said.
Everyone will be able to tour the museum exposition. In particular, Tu-144, Tu-114, Yak-40, Yak-30 and MiG-31 planes; V-12 (Mi-12), Ka-25 and Mi-24A helicopters are open for viewing. It is possible to get a consultation on all aircraft in the museum, Klimov said.
