MHG head Alexeyeva honored to be Nobel Peace Prize nominee
Russia's eldest human rights activist, Moscow Helsinki Group head Lyudmila Alexeyeva says she is pleased to be nominated for Nobel Peace Prize.
"I am delighted. There have been only 200 nominees worldwide. Of all them are commendable persons and organizations. It is a great honor to be one of them," Alexeyeva told Interfax on Thursday.
It was reported on Wednesday that U.S. Senator Benjamin Cardin had nominated Alexeyeva for Nobel Peace Prize.
"If I were a member of the Nobel Committee, I would give the award to the human rights activist who really risks one's life. Our work is hard but there are countries where work is even harder. These are Afghanistan, Iran and China," Alexeyeva said.
