12:40 February 4, 2013
The command of the Transbaikal Cossack Army has unanimously supported the request of descendants of Cossacks in Calgary, Canada, to join the army, head of the army Sergei Bobrov has told Interfax.
"The new structure will be called the West Canadian mission village," he said.
He said that some 15 people are registered in the unit but with time its size is expected to grow as Canadian young people are showing interest in Cossack traditions.
Earlier the Transbaikal Cossack Army admitted Cossacks from Australia - descendants of Siberian Cossacks who emigrated from Russia during the civil war.
At the time, over 150 descendants of Cossacks joined the Transbaikal Cossack Army.
