The artistic director of Moscow's Bolshoi ballet company, Sergei Filin, has scrapped a plan to go to Belgium for the treatment of injuries he received as a masked man splashed acid over his face outside his home on Thursday night, the Bolshoi Theater spokesperson said on Friday.

"Treatment in Belgium has had to be canceled because it's a burn center there whereas burns are not the main problem for Sergei now, the main problem are his eyes," Katerina Novikova told Interfax.

Earlier, the Russian Embassy in Brussels told Interfax Filin planned to get treatment in Belgium.

Filin, who received cornea and skin burns in the attack, had an operation on his eyes in Moscow on Friday. The operation "went well," the head of the city's healthy department, Georgy Golukhov, told Interfax.
