Military cooperation between Russia and NATO is generally developing successfully, Colonel-general Valery Gerasimov, the head of the Russian General Staff, told reporters on Wednesday.

"Our general evaluation of the results of our cooperation in 2012 is positive. According to our estimations, over 85 percent of the plan has been fulfilled, which is a very good indicator and confirms our adherence to the idea of increasing cooperation in areas that present mutual interest," Gerasimov said after the meeting of the NATO-Russia Council at the level of the heads of the General Staffs held in Brussels on Wednesday.

The meeting addressed the results of military cooperation in 2012, the future priorities, and the plan of military cooperation between Russia and NATO in 2013.

Gerasimov said the meeting involved contacts between Russian and NATO experts on military medicine, logistics, the fight against homemade explosive devices, and personnel training.

"Cooperation in these areas will continue in 2013," the general said.

The approved plan of Russia-NATO cooperation envisions specific events on each of these areas, he said.

Gerasimov gave good marks to the results of the meeting of the NATO-Russia Council at the level of the heads of the General Staffs. The forum "made it possible to determine the priorities of military cooperation and openly discuss European and regional security issues at a high level."
