Russian authorities drafts action plan to improve Russian image abroad
Russia seeking an improvement of its image abroad will increase the number of science and culture centers and host a world festival of youth and students in 2017, Kommersant reported on Wednesday.
"In the first turn, Rossotrudnichestvo (the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation) is bound to use new instruments for improving Russia's image abroad and promoting Russian interests," the newspaper said.
It added that Rossotrudnichestvo drafted the document with the assistance of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to the draft, Russia will start with broadening the geography and activity of science and culture centers.
"The plan stipulates an enlargement of the number of science and culture centers "with due account of Russian geopolitical interests" and modernization of the existent centers, many of which are in deplorable condition," the newspaper stressed.
Science and culture centers in countries of residence of many alumni of Soviet and Russian universities will eventually open online post-graduate education courses, Kommersant said.
Branches of Russian leading museums will open at some of the centers, while others will have virtual museums.
Websites of the centers will present "online exhibitions of Russian regions" and "a hymn in prose" that will advertise Russia.
Rossotrudnichestvo, the Foreign Ministry, the Culture Ministry and the Communications and Media Ministry will write the hymn, the newspaper said.
Promotion of the Russian language will be another area of the government's activity abroad, the plan said.
