Former Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov was questioned on Friday regarding presumed abuses in the Defense Ministry uncovered by law enforcement during the investigation into the operations of the Oboronservice company affiliated with the ministry, sources in the know of the situation told Interfax.

"The matter involves the illegal construction of an 8-kilometer long road toward a commercial site belonging to the ex-minister's relative," one of the sources said.

Investigative agencies found out that this construction inflicted damage amounting to 18 million rubles on the state, he said.

"Serdyukov could well be held criminally liable on this count," he said.
