Russia plans to build several radar stations by 2018
The Russian company RTI Systems plans to manufacture a number of prefabricated early warning radar stations to control the southeastern and northern directions by 2018, RTI Systems General Director Sergei Boyev said.
"We have to build a number of stations by 2018, primarily in the southeastern and northern directions," Boyev said at an international innovative development forum in Moscow.
Such stations will be deployed in the Orenburg region and near Barnaul, Boyev said. The location of stations to monitor the northern sector has yet to be determined, he said.
The existing radar stations monitoring the northern sector will have to undergo modernization, he said.
RTI Systems has been tasked with restoring the national early warning system, Boyev said. "We have to meet very tough deadlines in restoring it," he said.
A number of prefabricated radar stations in Lekhtusi and Armavir have already been commissioned and started their operations, he said.
