Saransk is Russia's most comfortable city
Saransk, the administrative center of Mordovia, has been named Russia's most comfortable city, according to the results of a contest launched in 2011, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced at a government meeting on Thursday.
"Taking part in the contest were 105 municipalities. Naturally, there are losers, but there also are the winners and I am glad to name them. In third place - Belgorod, Barnaul and Makhachkala, the latter is especially important. In second place - Ulyanovsk and Tomsk, and in first place - Mordovia's capital of Saransk," the premier said.
The prize winners on the whole totaled 23 cities and villages, some representing one region, for example Tatarstan or the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The contest criteria included the state of public amenities, housing and communal services, transport and ecology, as well as government-private partnerships, support for small businesses, and the introduction of modern know-how.
