Medvedev to chair conference on establishing Moscow as a Financial Center
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will soon chair a conference on establishing Moscow as a Financial Center.
"I will soon chair a conference on Moscow as a Financial Center, which is of paramount importance for our future," he said at the Monday meeting of the Advisory Council for Foreign Investment in Russia.
Medvedev recalled he had established the related commission during his presidency. The commission united bankers and infrastructure project executives.
Relations between Russia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are on the rise, the premier said. "Our relations had been semi-frozen for a rather long time," he added.
"I recall visiting the EBRD headquarters in 1992 or 1993 to negotiate a loan, which was denied in the end. That was the beginning of our relationship. The St. Petersburg administration and a group of investors were negotiating the loan to build a new airport. Thank God, we are building this airport even without EBRD backing," he said.
Medvedev said he was glad that relations have started to improve.
