Russia urges West and Iran to show goodwill over nuclear problem dialogue
Russia's Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin has called on the West and Iran to look for a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear problem.
Both Western countries and Iran "ought to show their goodwill toward dialogue without threats in order to formulate a political and diplomatic solution to the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program," Churkin said at the UN Security Council's session addressing Iran on Thursday.
For their part, Western officials present at the session once again called on Tehran to take all of the steps needed to fulfill its international obligations regarding the nuclear program.
The UN Security Council has tightened diplomatic, trade and nuclear sector sanctions against Iran on four occasions since 2006 in an attempt to persuade Tehran to sit down at the negotiating table.
