The Russian embassy in Afghanistan has denied reports claiming that Russian citizens were killed in a terror attack in Kabul.

"Reports claiming that Russian citizens were killed in the terror attack have not been confirmed," the Russian embassy's press officer Stepan Anikeyev told Interfax.

"Employees of a private South African firm that provided services to the U.S. embassy's air fleet, came under a drive-by suicide bomb attack as they ere traveling in three mini-buses," he said.

"The explosion hit the first mini-bus in which a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, seven citizens of South Africa and two Afghans - the driver and the interpreter - were traveling. All of them were killed," Anikeyev said.

There were no Russian nationals in the buses. The other two mini-buses were not affected, he said citing early reports.

The BBC earlier announced, citing sources in the Afghan police, that Russian could have been among those killed in the attack.
