Krasnodar has 23 African swine fever outbreaks in 2012
The Krasnodar territory has had 23 African swine fever outbreaks this year, the Federal Veterinarian and Phytosanitary Control Service reports.
Pigs, which died at the Kanevskoy Bacon farm in the Bryukhovetsky district, were diagnosed with African swine fever by a laboratory. The farm had 6,145 pigs at the moment the outbreak happened. It is located 25 kilometers away from another infection spot, LLC Reutsky pig farm.
The Bryukhovetsky district has 15,845 pigs in all. Veterinarian authorities are working to confine the infection.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has paid attention to the infection spread in the Krasnodar territory.
An inspection done by territorial prosecutors and specialists exposed flagrant violations of veterinarian norms by farm administrations. Sanitary norms and the closed-door regime are breached at pig farms, sudden pig deaths are kept secret from supervisory authorities, and pigs are sold without veterinarian certificates.
Prosecutors took measures as regards the wrongdoings.
