Moscow backs idea to hold conference of all Syrian opposition groups in Damascus - Lavrov

Moscow supports the Syrian National Coordination Council's (NCC) idea to hold a conference of all opponents of President Bashar al-Assad's regime in Damascus, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We emphasized that we support the initiative of the largest opposition group inside Syria, the National Coordination Council, to convene a conference of all opposition forces in Syria itself, in Damascus, to work out a consolidated negotiating position and further promote this position in a dialogue with the government," Lavrov told journalists on Saturday.
