Shuvalov: Russia must join OECD as soon as possible
All procedures related to Russia's accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) must have been carried through by 2014, said Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.
"It is important for Russia to position itself as a predictable and transparent partner. The World Trade Organization, while being an instrument of ensuring mutually advantageous and multilateral trade, was for Russia's internal agenda a springboard for joining the OECD, where one can get only after joining becoming a WTO member," he said.
In the coming couple of years Russia will need to modify its legislation in a way that would match the best standards characteristic of the OECD member-states, he said.
"We also need to ensure the unswerving compliance with the law and to form civilized practices. It would be the best signal for investors," Shuvalov said.
