Moscow is proposing the idea of launching a system of monitoring natural and man-made disasters in the Asia-Pacific region, said President Vladimir Putin.

"Russia wants a regional system of monitoring natural and man-made disasters to be formed. We are prepared to cooperate intensively with our partners in the Asia and Pacific region in this project," Putin told the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum's business summit on Friday.

"The Fukushima nuclear power plant disasters was a serious lessons for all," he said.

"High safety standards of nuclear power plant construction and operation is the demand that cannot be ignored," Putin said.

"This particular approach lies at the base of the bilateral agreements which Russia recently signed with Japan, the United States, Australia and other countries," he said.

"We will adhere to it in the future," Putin said.
